Iconographic Patterns
A Tribute to My Beloved Father

When my beloved father and hero Roberto passed away, my world suddently stopped. I used my creations to express my grief and sense of loss. Though I internalized my feelings with words, the sadness and loss came out in my artwork at the time. My personal experiences with Greece’s rich culture, combined with my emotional state over the physical departure of my dad became my series entitled: "Iconographic Patterns." Here I incorporated elements of Byzantine iconography and personal loss. It is expressed as a state of emotion, linked together in the technique of sewing, which has been a key element of my family’s history of survival for many generations. Through this art, I “beatified” my father and other special people in my life who had passed away by creating my own "saints."
